ABSTRACT: It is true that innovation is one of the must frequently myths we appeal at, but it is also true that sometimes we have to take a look to the already existing things, and maybe, we can find the answers we search for in those apparently simple things. That is the case of this research project, we left behind the notion of innovation just to propose the use of experimental software for textile design. This research project is divided in nine chapters; each one of them deals with a specific subject in order to make an easier understanding of the whole document. This is obeys to the nature of its own birth, in which two distant knowledge branches are mixed to develop a project that could be called a textile engineering and design project. In Chapter 1, the reader will find the aim, background and justification of the project. In Chapter 2 we tried to demonstrate how the CAD systems improve the whole production processes, and how the integration of the Information Technologies to the manufacturing process (CIM) can help to make a company much stronger and efficient in the market. Furthermore, this chapter deals with the analysis of a 2D CAD graphical system developed by Mr. Manuel Ochoa, in 1997. For a better understanding of the mathematical principles by which this CAD system works, we have illustrated all the basic transformations of the shape –rotation, scale, translation, reflection- with a little scheme that represents the x and y axes and a basic figure, also, we have included the matrix equations regarding each one of those transformations. Chapter 3 offers a guide for non designers regarding the different ways to make a pattern design, in this sense we show how we had created the entire project. In Chapter 4 there is a small introduction to the Jacquard weaving technologies, this is due to the complexity of the looms and the way the patterns are created. Also, we offer a view or the different kinds of jacquard tapestry for a more detailed comprehension of chapter 5. In Chapter 5 we will find the design project, its definition, concept, parameters and the graphical representation of 17 different designs for Jacquard looms, each one with 4 color variations. We also included 3 color schemes in which the collection is based on. In Chapter 6, the reader will be able to judge this research project by comparing the final considerations contained in this chapter with the own criteria. Finally, Chapters 7 and 8 has the estimated cost of the design project and the bibliography.
