fluorescente.
Abstract
Cyanobacteria are photosynthetic organisms capable of use light and the CO2
in the atmosphere to produce oxygen and biomass as the main products in
addition to secondary metabolites such as carbohydrates and lipids. In
cyanobacteria growth, one of the most important aspects in the design of the
process is the supply of light energy.
This study evaluated the influence of different lighting configurations in kinetic
constants, yields and productivity of cyanobacteria in the prototype
photobioreactor
It specified three photobioreactors as bubble column with three different
lighting configurations: i) fluorescent lamp radiating on the photobioreactor
from a single point, ii) flexible LED commercial strip placed in a spiral around
the photobioreactor outer tube and iii) flexible LED commercial strip placed in a
spiral around the inside of the inner tube photobioreactor.
The biomass generated by the configuration of external LED strip was 112
million cells mL-1, about twice the biomass generated with the other two
systems. These experimental evidences suggest that the amount of light
available within the medium is higher with external LED lighting systems due
to the paths of photons inside the photobioreactor and that, based on the
statistical analysis, there is no significant difference between cell growth with
internal LED lighting system of spiral and fluorescent light source.
