Abstract:
Abstract
This research stems from the difficulties encountered in some preservice teachers from Uruguay, when they played the role of teachers with a group in charge, in the last year of their career, as part of the subject 3th Didactics. This course consists of two parts: a theoretical one, with various topics of Mathematics Education, and practice teaching, a course where students have school teaching practice as full teachers, in a class group of basic secondary education (12-15 years). The observed difficulties are related to the planning of classes, activities proposed to students, the difficulty to generate in them
the need to take responsibility for their own learning. This seems to show a mismatch between the theoretical aspects that work in Mathematics Education courses, and the elements that the preservice teachers take into account in their classrooms. The theoretical framework used for frame was the interactionist approach in Mathematics Education, based on Symbolic Interactionism. Under this framework, any task set in math class contains some ambiguity, and therefore an interpretation of students and teachers is necessary. In turn, the teacher must interpret the answers that students
offer. Thus, the resulting mathematical knowledge is the product of a negotiation. The same occurs through the interactions of the class. We analize the way the teacher and students structure their interactions with each other.
In particular, we study the existence of unconscious and interactively made interaction patterns, which impoverish the negotiated menanings. Four preservice teachers participated in the research, four classes of each were observed and video recorded. In the same interactions they were analyzed, using as criteria: the intention of the questions of student teachers, objectives and characteristics of their students' responses, or search other than the official solutions, among others. From them the predominant pattern of each student was determined teachers.
