Abstract:
ABSTRACT
The Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is a way to create conscience, to develop abilities to satisfy needs and improve the quality of life, despite of it, the role of ESD into the daily life is feeble, because some of the results are not visible in a short period of time. Also in formal education, the ESD is mainly about infrastructure modifications to create green campus, leaving outside the study and the consideration of the needs of persons.
This study was based on human needs, taking up the theory of Existence, Relatedness and Growth (ERG) described by Alderfer (1969), where it is mentioned that the needs can be met in different stages. The variables used for the study were based on the scheme of Hann, and others (2014).
The study takes up the relationship between the Needs and ESD, because it does not exist a strong theoretical frame that exemplifies the importance of this binomial, despite ESD should consider the subject as a human being, and his needs at the center of action. Knowing the needs (in this case, that of universities students) we can propose solutions that benefit in a collectively and individually way with the least possible impact.
The field work of this research was conducted in July 2015 at the University Center UAEM Valley of Teotihuacan, where relevant data were obtained through a questionnaire to analyze the needs of students, and the needs which were considered as relevant were at first place the existence needs, then the relatedness needs and the last one are the growth needs; while the role that education plays to satisfy the needs, is more important for existence needs, the relatedness needs and the growth needs.
