In this project were built ductile iron alloyed with Ni (1 and 2 %) through heat treatment of base metal (Fe-C-Si-P-S-Mn-Ni) with inoculation treatments with FeSi and Nodulization with Mg + rare earths through the sandwich process. Then, the ductile iron is applied an austempering heat treatment in a salt bath in order to get grafite nodules immersed in a matrix of ausferrite to get ADI. The austempering heat treatment is carried out to an austenizing temperature (860°C), the austempering temperature oscillated in 850 to 860°C in times of 10, 30 and 60 minutes. The ductile iron and ADI ́s built were analized microstructural to determine the mechanical behavior through tensile, hardness and toughness tests. It was determined that the addition of manganese in ductile iron promoted the formation of carbides, which are segregated in the interdendritic region, increasing its hardness for ductile irons produced, whereas for the addition of nickel ADI ́s slowed reaction of step 1 of austempered. Content greater than 1 % nickelled to the formation of martensite within the limits of cell cooling
