ABSTRACT
In this study, we investigated the electrical and thermal properties of PVDF nanofibers (insulators) that are obtained by electrospinning that can be used to develop materials with applications in the area of electronics, taking advantage of their piezoelectric properties and an adequate dispersion of nanoparticles of (NPs-Ag) at different concentrations which were obtained using the technique by microwave irradiation, which as we know one of its advantages over conventional heating is that it produces a homogenous heating which favors the formation of the nanoparticles and reduces in large measure the reaction time. With the UV-vis the presence of NPs-Ag could be confirmed in the reaction, it was possible to deduce through its absorption length located at 408𝑛𝑚 that they were NPs-Ag of relatively small size (<20𝑛𝑚), which could confirm with the Nanosetaziser that the average hydrodynamic size of the NPs-Ag is 15.75𝑛𝑚 and a potential of 3.98𝑚𝑉.
The incorporated and distribution of NPs-Ag in the PVDF nanofibers was also characterized by transmission electron microscopy (MET) where a good distribution was observed and that this depends on the process conditions. X-ray diffraction (DRx) was also confirmed confirming that the structure is predominantly la 𝛽−𝑏𝑒𝑡𝑎 and the crystalline presence of the Ag-NPs is confirmed by means of the characteristic diffraction indices of both compounds.
Samples were formulated using a statistical model, based on fractional factorial design 25-2 with five factors: PVDF concentration (12−16%), NPs-Ag concentration (4−12%), Flow rate (0.4−0.8𝑚𝐿ℎ), Voltage (15−20𝑘𝑉), and Distance (12−15𝑐𝑚), to evaluate the effect of each factor on the formation of nanofibers (diameter) and thermal and electrical properties. In the formation of nanofibers (diameter) the most significant factors were the concentration of PVDF, the flow and the distance according to the model. The measurement of diameters was by micrographs obtained from the scanning electron microscope (SEM), the size distribution was from, 159.4𝑛𝑚 to 658.77𝑛𝑚, respectively. For the electrical properties, the most significant factors were the concentration of NPs-Ag and the flow according to the filtration design. The experimental values of the electrical conductivity measured by Hall effect range from (5.6𝐸−7𝑡𝑜 1.55𝐸−6 𝑠𝑐𝑚), which in the same way the concentration of the NPs-Ag was A significant factor for the thermal properties, together with the flow and concentration of PVDF. Photoacoustic techniques were applied for the measurement of thermal properties. Experimental values were obtained from (1.19𝐸+1𝑡𝑜 3.45𝐸+1 𝑤𝑚𝑘). As the variation of these factors determines the increase or decrease of the electrical and thermal conductivity, the other factors that do not have a reduced effect are maintained as constant, taking care that these do not affect the formation of the nanofibers and the distribution of the NPs-Ag. From these results the new levels of variation were established, increasing the concentration of NPs-Ag in order to improve the previous results.
According to new established levels, the samples were formulated according to the new statistical model, based on a two-factor response surface methodology: the concentration of NPs-Ag (25−45%) and flow rate (0.3−0.6𝑚𝐿ℎ) to evaluate its electrical properties. The model indicated the significance of the factors, according to the response surface graphs of the experimental results were from (1.05𝐸−6𝑡𝑜 1.12𝐸−5 𝑠𝑐𝑚), High concentrations of NPs-Ag added to the matrix of PVDF contributes to have a better use of the electric property of the silver and compared to the previous result, it was possible to improve the conductivity up to order of magnitude.
