ABSTRACT:In this work the study of the electrochemical performance of Ru-Ir-Co-O supported particles in SbSnO2 (ATO) used as electrocatalyst is approached. The experimental sequence and the results of the synthesis and characterization of the “so-called” electrocatalysts; Oxides / Wuhan and Oxides / NanoArc and supports; ESIQIE synthesized by the sol-gel route, Wuhan previously synthesized by the research group and NanoArc a commercial material are shown. The incorporation of Ru-Ir-Co-O nanoparticles as an active phase was carried out by the vapor phase thermal decomposition method to the Wuhan and NanoArc supports. They were structurally and morphologically characterized by Transmission Electron Microscopy (MET), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Raman Spectroscopy. The electrocatalytic activity of these materials was evaluated by means of electrochemical tests in a half cell using 0.5 M H2SO4 support electrolyte, using the techniques of Cyclic Voltammetry (VC) with which, it was possible to observe the typical form of the cyclic voltammograms of the electrocatalysts and the capacitance of the double layer for support materials and Linear Voltammetry (VL) with which it was possible to obtain the Tafel slope values and the exchange current, plus an indication of the possible mechanism by which the oxygen evolution reaction is carried out (OER). With the purpose of evaluating the performance of the RuIr-Co oxides supported in Sb-SnO2, as an anode in a PEM water electrolyser, a research stay was carried out in the National Hydrogen Center and this material and a commercial material of RuO2 - IrO2 (O. Commercial) were evaluated in a PEM Test Bench, for which the Electrodes Membrane Assembly (MEA) was made with these materials and the results were compared with those obtained in a prototype PEM electrolysis cell in the Electrochemical and Corrosion Laboratory-ESIQIE. According to the results obtained, the O.Comerciales material shows the best performance in the electrolysis cell than the Oxides / NanoArc and Oxides / Wuhan. The method of incorporation of the active phase was effective to achieve that the oxides are distributed in the support and the methodology of preparation of the MEAs is optimum. The results open the possibility of manufacturing a new electrolysis cell design.
