Abstract:
ABSTRACT: With the birth of the Green Revolution and the Biotechnological Revolution between the 1960s and 1980s, a major industrialization of the countryside began, where large agricultural producers saw their profits increase significantly, while small farmers were displaced to face socio-economic problems (lack of employment, migration, abandonment of their lands and poverty in general) and environmental (drought, flood, frost, hail and climate change crisis). Contrary to the above, organic agriculture was born in the 1980s as a counterrevolution that seeks to combat the problems generated by the current agricultural industry with the help of sustainable and ecological techniques that considerably mitigate the negative impact of man about the environment. Under the previous context, the general objective of this research was to analyze the characteristics of agricultural production in the locality of Santa Isabel Atenayuca, Puebla, in order to identify opportunities for sustainable local development strategies. For this, an analysis of the characteristics of the agriculture in the locality was carried out, thus identifying the products susceptible to organic certification. The qualitative and quantitative methodology consisted of semistructured interviews with key stakeholders and the application of 58 surveys applied to small agricultural producers. Field research showed that the present agricultural situation of the locality has the necessary conditions and characteristics for the transition from traditional agricultural production techniques to organic production techniques. It also allowed to know that organic amaranth is the product as the best candidate, since it is already cultivated in the locality and because it has a market that guarantees the purchase of amaranth crops. The proposal was therefore proposed to identify those of the respondents who are candidates and what their economic benefits will be in the short and long term and of course the ecological benefits of sustainable agriculture.
