Abstract:
ABSTRACT: In this work an efficient agglomeration process has been developed compared to techniques currently employed in the industry.
Thanks to the DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry), a study is carried out to compare the use of two curing agents and the reaction time, initial temperature, the kinetics in the cured reaction and the glass transition temperature are determined. The results indicate that the use of the agent Ancamine K61B has great advantages over the agent Imicure AMI2.
On the other hand, images of the agglomerated particles were obtained in Optical Microscopy and Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy. The images reveal that when curing the resin with Ancamine K61B agglomerates of more regular and shape and less particle size distribution are obtained than when using Imicure AMI2. It is also appreciated that the resin distribution on the solid is suitable allowing Al2O3 to be exposed on the surface of the agglomerate and not encapsulated in the cured resin.
Finally, a comparative table of the process developed in this work regarding existing agglomeration techniques is presented. It points out great advantages as well as some limitations of the designed method. Also some aspects to be studied in later works are mentioned.
