ABSTRACT:
One of the principal problems which the petroleum industry of the country deals with, respect to the treatment of crude heavy oils, is the excessive quantity of water contained in them, and the formation of a highly and stable emulsion of the type of water - in – oil emulsion (W/O), which is generated in the novel processes of extraction of crude oils from different petroleum wells.
The demulsifying agents consist of a block copolymer structure, which means, polymers shaped by different monomeric subunits accommodated in long blocks, being the selected monomers: the ethylene oxide (EO) and the propylene oxide (PO), in a blcok structure (PPO/PPE), which will give to the demulsifying agents properties such as hydrophobicity or lipophilicity, situation that benefits the removal of water from crude oils.
The synthesis of the new demulsifying agents was done by means of ring opening anionic polymerization, and into this work new initiators of the type of polyalcohol were proposed, in his respective potassium alkoxide salt, the promoter of the anionic polymerization of the monomers above mentioned. The physicochemical characterization was done using different analytical instrumental complementary analysis, such technics as size exclusion chromatography (SEC), Fourier transformed infrared analysis (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance of Carbon 13 (RMN 13C), some thermal analysis as termogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). These technics allowed to elucidate both the chemical structure of the copolymers and other physicochemical relevant properties from the samples studied such as the average molar mass in number (Mn) and de polidispersity index (I), and the thermal transitions temperatures (Tg´s) and degradation temperature (Tdeg) from the samples analyzed..
The efficiency of the water removal will be evaluated by means of bottle tests, which is the habitual way of determining the performance of the new dehydrating agents proposed. The DSC analysis permitted to corroborate the dehydration of the crude samples after being treated with the different dehydrating agents
Other one of the intentions of this work was to be able to establish a probable correlation between the quantity of active sites of the initiators (depending on the hydroxyl groups present in the structure of the initiator) with the physicochemical properties of the synthesized samples, as well as with the efficiency of water removal of the different demulsifying agents evaluated.
