Abstract:
ABSTRACT: The welding process GMAW is one of the most used in the metalmechanic industry
because of the benefits it offeres, in combination with a variety of steels which can be
used in this process. It is very important to know the characteristics and microstructural
properties of the welding to make a complete assessment of the mechanical properties.
The heat treatments are performed to modify the welded piece and improve the
microstructural characteristics that are affected by the heat generated at the time of
deposition welding.
The test performed in most industries are not sufficient to predict the performance of
parts, it is focused only on the mechanical properties and microstructural characteristics.
It is therefore necessary to develop a series of studies to improve the characteristics of
weldments.
This work involves the analysis of two structural steel plates joined by GMAW welding
process whit two different microwire feed rates (180mm/s and 190mm/s). The study
includes impact test and hardness profile in the different zones present in the weld (heat
affected zone (HAZ), liaison area (ZE) and fusion zone (FTZ) to observe the evolution
of heat treatment stress relieving at different temperatures (350, 450 and 550°C)
Similary the curve ductile-brittle transition is constructed through impact test.
