ABSTRACT:
In this wok the experimental study of the behavior of the curves of was carried out: flow vs head (Q-H), flow vs drive power (Q-Pa), flow vs efficiency (Q-n) and head vs required net positive suction head (H-NPSHr) of a centrifugal horizontal process pump providing the of the compliance solution for the warranted operation point or selected point in compliance to the engineering curve according to the mandatory standards set by the API 610 for this kind of pumps, observing especially the aceptance grades of the hydrodinamyc test and their tolerance band, the pump was tested following the metodology recommended by this standard, the way to demonstrate that a pump complies with the requirements of the API 610 is through an experimental study of laboratory testing.
The pump was installed in a testing bench with 250 mm (10 inches) suction piping and 152.4 mm (6 inches) discharge piping, the accesories needed for the installation were: 254 (10 inches) flexible piping, 254 (10 inches) flow straghtener, straight pipe section with pressure reading of 254 mm (10 inches), straight pipe section with pressure reading of 152.4 mm (6 inches), the OH2 test pump to give the operating conditions at nominal angular speed 1760 rpm requires 137.95 kW (185 hp) of power, the capacity of installed electrical motor to the pump is 149.2 kW (200 hp), the pump could not be tested at nominal angular speed of operation due to exceeding the capacity conditions of the transformer, so the test was performed reducing the speed with a frequency inverter, it was reduced from 1760 rpm to 1408 rpm that corresponds to 80% of the rated speed, at this angular speed the power decreases to 51.2% the test was performed with clean water at 20°C of temperature, recording the results in a data table, with this data obtained thru the experiment the calculation development was generated, using the energy balance equation or hydrodynamics fundamental equation, the continuity equation, to calculate the pressure loss by friction the Darcy-Weisbach equation was used, with the affinity laws the results of the test speed were transported at the nominal speed of operation.
As a result of this work the performance curves were obtained according to the API 610 standard of: flow vs head, flow vs eficiency, flow vs drive power, head vs NPSH3%, as expected for a closed circuit laboratory, and from the mathematical analysis the NPSHd and NPSHr they were plotted against the flow, where both curves were intercepted is the maximum test flow of the pump, before it enters vapor phase or cavite, finally the test was satisfactory, so if the pump be installed, started up and presents failures the problem would not be the pump maybe the engineering of pipes, accesories and auxiliary equipment, a thorough analysis of the operation conditions of the pumping plant should be carried out, the requirement of the drive power of the pump for the guaranteed point is 137.95 kW (185 hp), while the drive power that was determined thru the test is 125.25 kW (168.29 hp) there is a difference of 12.45 kW (15.67 hp), this is reflected in the results graph in terms of the break horse power for the guaranteed point it was above the test point.
