Abstract:
ABSTRACT: The genus Fulvifomes was proposed by Murrill to include fungi with brown perennial and woody consistency basidiome, poroid hymenophore and pigmented, yellowish brown, yellowish brown basidiospores, lack hymenial setae and was typified with F. robiniae. The genus has been considered synonymous with Fomes or Phellinus by other authors. Currently, it has been accepted by several mycologist as a distinct and valid genus in the Hymenocheataceae family. Furthermore, the study of species Fulvifomes, Fomitiporella and Aurificaria has used molecular markers as nLSU and ITS for their phylogenetic analyzes and Fulvifomes is recover in a monophyletic clade, like as Fomitiporella (including some species located in Fulvifomes), but not the type species of the genus Aurificaria (A. indica) falling within the clade of Fulvifomes species. In this work, eight explorations were made in the vegetation types of xerophilic scrub and tropical dry forest and 42 specimens of Fulvifomes were collected. Specimens of collected fungi were characterized macro and microscopically and temporary preparations were made with KOH at 5%, and determined species with taxonomic keys. Additionally, 184 specimens that belonged to the genus or were related to the genus were reviewed and deposited in the ENCB herbarium. Fourteen species were determined within the genus Fulvifomes: F. badius, F. castilloi, F. centroamericanus, F. fastuosus, F. krugiodendri, F. luteoumbrinus, F. mangroviscus, F. merrilli, F. nilgheriensis, F. porrectus, F. rimosus, F. robiniae, F. sanjanii and F. switeniaee. Fulvifomes centroamericanus and Fulvifomes krugiodendri are registered for first time in Mexico. In addition, five new species for science, recognized by molecular analysis of the sequence of the ITS and nLSU markers. Finally, four new taxonomic combinations are proposed in Fulvifomes: F. badius, F. castilloi, F. luteoumbrinus and F. porrectus.
