Abstract:
ABSTRACT: The study area is located at the intersection of the municipalities of three states: Acambay de Ruíz Castañeda, Aculco, Atlacomulco, Chapa de Mota, El Oro, Jilotepec, Jocotitlán, Morelos, San Felipe del Progreso, Soyaniquilpan, Temascalcingo, Tepotzotlán, Timilpan, Polotitlán y Villa del Carbón, en el Estado de México by the Estado de Mexico; Amealco de Bonfil y San Juan del Río at the state of Queretaro and Chapatongo, Nopala de Villagrán, Tepejí del Río, Tepetitlán, Tezontepec y Tula de Allende located in the state of Hidalgo. The polygon that describes the study area is located within the province of the Trans- Mexican Volcanic Belt (TMVB); and fall upon the sub-provinces Mil Cumbres, Lagos y Volcanes del Anahuac and Sierras de Queretaro e Hidalgo, into the same province. The main objective of this thesis consists in the elaboration of the semi-detailed geological cartography from all the volcanic buildings, structures and tectonic manifestations of the area by a morphostructural analysis through a geographic information system (GIS) and the relation of this information with petrological, magnetometric and geochronological data previously published. Through the integration of this items it aims to make a contribution to the knowledge and understanding the evolution of the volcanism and the distribution of the different geological and geomorphological units, relief patterns within the east side of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt, mostly allocated at the northwestern portion of the Estado de Mexico; starting off the topographic charts recognized as E14A17, E14A18, F14C87 and F14C88, from the Instituto Nacional de Geografía y Estadística (INEGI). At this time, it was made a geomorphological characterization of 30 units, composed by volcanic complexes, volcanic buildings, calderas, igneous intrusives, among others features. Within this units, its distinguishable the Jilotepec Volcanic Field (JVC), composed by 96 monogenetic volcanoes, mostly basaltic and a felsicandesitic dome complex, named Dedeni-Dolores, landed at the center of JVC. This volcanic field is restricted by the Huichapan-Donguinyó Caldera Complex at the northwest, Xithí and La Joya Stratovolcanoes at the northeast; at the southside by the Graben de Acambay and an undifferentiated volcanism from the TMVB, and finally, at the western by the Ñadó Volcanic Complex. In so far as the JVC, a geomorphological description was performed from the most representative builds, and the morphometrical parameters from all of them based on its physical attributes.
