ABSTRACT:
The lack of information of micro-watershed level in the main areas of water recharge,
generates ignorance about effective actions and correct decisions to making to
guarantee the quantity and quality of water resource. Added to this, the peak of this
area, as a tourist destination, have increased with the amount of people who also
consume this water. So, this has led to questioning how to conserve or keep
available this resource to the people from the town and visitors, and this way, to
know the places and necessary measures that should be taken to conserve the
water resource. The objective of this study was to contribute to the planning and management of the natural resources through the identification of conservation zones and water protection in Capulálpam de Mendez to preserve long-term water supply. This was
obtained by generation of soil moisture and vegetation indexes, a geophysical
method (EM-VLF) and slope data, type of soil, rock and vegetation existing in the
basin. Transects of 900 meters were made on the location of the springs and
perpendicular to the main faults identified in the region with a VLF ABEM WADI
equipment. The map algebra methodology was applied considering each one of the
elements that take part in the water recharge and weighing its importance to obtain
the areas with greatest influence on water recharge.
