ABSTRACT:
This thesis work describes the development of a thin film coating technique based on mixtures of glass and ceramics by using CO2 laser radiation and the analysis of its mechanical properties. The glass-ceramic enamels were applied on the surface of Grade 5 Titanium plates (Ti-6al-4v alloy), after a few minutes in the air, the plates go to the vitrification process with the assistance of a pulsed wave CO2 laser with a maximum power of 40W. During the development of this technique the phenomenon of wettability in the interface of the metallic substrate and the ceramic was faced, this indicate that is necessary to find the optimal radiation parameters to raise the temperature of the metal surface and melt the ceramic in the same process. The effectiveness of the coating technique, developed in this work, is determined by the homogeneity of the glass-ceramic films created on the metallic plate and the determination of the hardness by using the nanoindentation technique.
