Abstract:
ABSTRACT:
Nowadays have been reported conditions like drought and salinity in a number of soil across de world. It is estimated that by 2050 more than 50% of arable land will be affected by this problem. Saline soils are not designated for agriculture due to its low productivity which cause damage to the development and growth of the crops.
However, there are plants that have the ability to grow in saline environments, such as Bacopa monnieri (L.) Wettst, that can be found in the Cienega de Chapala region.
The aim of this study is to assess the plant growth promotion potential of bacteria from rhizosphere of halophyte B. monnieri under saline stress conditions. Samples
of B. monnieri were collected from a geotermical area known as “Los Negritos” near to Villamar town, in the state of Michoacán. Halophilic medium (10% of NaCl) was used for the isolation and purification of rhizosphere bacteria. A total of 24 isolates were obtained, which were identified by using 16S rRNA analysis gene. Isolates were grown to evaluate the ability of production of IAA, siderophore and enzymatic activity, phosphate, phitate and zinc solubilization, by using in vitro assays.
Phylogenetic analysis showed that bacterial strains belonged to Oceanobacillus, Halobacillus, Bacillus, Halomonas, Planococcus, Psychrobacter, Vibrio and Nesterenkonia genera. All bacterial strains were halotolerant except for Halobacillus
that showed a moderated halophilic ability. Most of the bacterial strains were capable
to produce siderophore, IAA, and exhibited zinc, phosphate and phitate solubilization activity under salt concentrations. 40% of the strains showed enzymatic protease and amylase activities at 10% NaCl concentration. The results obtained in this study indicated the potential of rhizosphere bacteria from B. monnieri to improve the growth and development of plants under saline conditions.
