Abstract:
ABSTRACT: The objective of this study is to know the spawning strategy of Chione californiensis, in relation to the temperature in La Niña, El Niño and normal years in Ensenada de La Paz, B.C. S. México. Sampling was conducted in Ensenada de La Paz (in front of CICIMAR), from January to December 2016, 30 organisms were collected monthly and the temperature of the site was taken. Additionally, we used the data obtained by other authors who carried out similar studies in Chione californiensis, in the same locality of study, using the same methodology that is described in this work. To estimate the sexual proportion of the population, the X2 test was used. The Pearson's correlation coefficient was used between the visceral mass index and the temperature. The Spearman correlation coefficient was used between the phases of the gonad cycle, the temperature and the four years analyzed (1988-89, 1993, 1997 and 2016). During the 2016 study year, all phases of the gonadic cycle were observed, the highest percentage of undifferentiated, mature and spawning organisms was obtained in May (93%), September (92%) and October (83%) respectively. Of the total 360 clams analyzed, 26% were females, 38% were males, 36% were undifferentiated and 9.16% were parasitized. The sex ratio remained 1M: 1H (p <0.05). A significant correlation was found between the visceral mass index and the temperature (rP: 0.695). The Spearman correlation coefficient between spawning and temperature was significant and positive (rS: 0.482, p <0.05). The spawning strategy of Chione californiensis when combining the four years of study in Ensenada de La Paz consists of having a higher incidence in the summer months. The strategy of the population studied is also evident in the indifferentiation phase, obtaining a negative correlation with temperature (rS: - 0.586, p <0.05), showing a high proportion of the population in this phase in the cold months. The maturity phase also presents a significant correlation with temperature (rS: 0.378, p <0.05), as well as a defined temporality, being brief and coincident in the summer, but the predictability of the oscillation of its values is lower than that of the phases already mentioned.
