Abstract:
ABSTRACT: In the present investigation a Closed Two-Phase Loop Thermosyphon was designed,
constructed and characterized using distilled water as the working fluid. The
characterization results are presented in this thesis.
The design, the material and working fluid elected were considered based on the
information obtained from the literature in the past two decades. For the characterization of
the thermosyphon, the design of an experimental set-up was necessary for different
experimental tests, where three flows of cooling water (1 lpm , 1.5 lpm and 2 lpm) are
using across the condenser zone, varying the heat supply in the evaporator zone (150 W ,
300 W and 450 W ) for different fill ratio volume ( Ψ=20% , Ψ=30% and Ψ=40% ), which
allows to know the maximum heat transport capacity and thermal efficiency.
The results show that the maximum heat transport is carried out with the greatest heat
supply in the evaporator zone (450 W) and with the lowest percentage of fill ratio volume
(Ψ=20%), the trend indicates that at higher flows of cooling water, the capacity in the heat
transport increases.
It was also observed that although the thermal efficiency tended to decline as the
percentage in the fill volume was increased, the values obtanied show that the influence of
higher flows of cooling water, that is, a great dissipate heat capacity, will lead to an
increase in the thermal efficiency for each of the supplied heat flux.
