ABSTRACT: In aquatic ecosystems the input of several pollutants may compromise fish health through oxidative stress induction, decreased resistance and the fostering of susceptibility to pathogens such as helminths. Lipid peroxidation (LPO) is one of the most commonly used methods to evaluate oxidative stress, while the use of morphometric indexes as the condition factor, hepatosomatic and gonadosomatic index contribute to the assessment of the fish health state. This study examines the relationships between LPO in liver, muscle and gills, water quality parameters, the fish health condition and the occurrence of helminthes in Astyanax aeneus and Floridichthys polyommus from the river Champotón, Campeche, in several study sites and periods. The integrated biomarker response of lipid peroxidation (IBR-LPO) was assessed with the levels of LPO in muscle, liver and gill for each site and period studied. There are differences in spatial and temporal parameters of water quality along the river, being the most impacted sites PU, SAR and PC during the rainfall period and subsequent to this, due to an increase in orthophosphates and nitrogen. Five helminthes were identified in A. aeneus: U. ambloplitis, Spiroxys sp., Contracaecum sp., Polymorphus sp. y C. complanatum. Helminths found in F. polyommus are new records both in the presence in a new host as in their distribution: Pseudoterranova sp., G. caribaensis, Southwellina sp., Contracaecum sp. y Polymorphus sp., being the latter two helminthes shared species between sentinel fish. July was the month with the highest values of the IBR-LPO for A. aeneus and in November to F. polyommus, being the gills which always had the highest values of LPO. Relationships were found between the abundance of helminthes and the LPO into specific organs. Polymorphus sp. appears to be the only helminth that compromises the condition of both A. aeneus and F. polyommus as it relates in a negative way with the condition factor.
