ABSTRACT: Acoustic Shock is the acute or chronic injury of the internal ear induced by noise, is the most frequent occupational diseases. Today, almost 30 million workers are exposed at potentially harmful hearing levels of noise with 85 dB and, in Mexico; the occupational hearing loss was placed in the first national place with 1 078 diagnosed cases in the 2007. However, in other activities in which the exposition is smaller (65- 70 dB) and not considered to be harmful it could condition the development of this damage, reason of the present was to study telephone workers and occupational use of headsets in three aspects: 1) To determine the state of the auditive function of 105 workers, at being contracted; 2) To study the conditions of use and exposure of headsets and 3) To determine the relation of hearing loss cause-effect and the use of headsets, in these operators. The statistical analysis consisted of comparing the audiometric results, by means of a test of “twin t” of the valuation of the auditive function, to establish if significant difference of the state of the auditive function at the beginning and two years later of period of study. Results showed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.013) between the rate of the auditive function of these workers at being contracted by the company and its present auditory function. Besides, we observed in the audiometric graphs of some operators, changes in the audiometrical curve corresponding to the high frequencies (above of the 3 KHz). Therefore, the exposure of these workers to this type sounds and, the conditions in which this exposure occurs, is the cause of the modification in its auditive function, but always it will be necessary to discard other not considered extraoccupational possibilities in this and further studies.
