Abstract:
ABSTRACT: This work focuses on the construction and development of a differentially steered and planar motion autonomous mobile robot with an embedded navigation system; an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) based Inertial Navigation System (INS) and odometry dead-reckoning. A caster wheel is added to assure stability, which is automatically and free aligned on the route as a result of the forces caused by the two drive wheels. Position tracking of a mobile robot is a method to find the robot position and orientation while moving or changing its location related to the environment. It can be not only used to track the moving path of the robot for searching and identifying its current position, but also to support the remotely control of the robot. Different movements like circular and straight-line paths, including collisions, are identified with both the inertial navigation and odometric systems, in order to obtain a more accurate value of the relative position. The results of the evaluation of the inertial navigation system are a mechanism for supplying additional information to the self-location process. Although the rate information from the INS is reliable over long periods of time, it must be integrated to provide absolute measurements of position, orientation, and velocity. The nonholonomic navigation problem of steering is another object of study in this project. The design of a controller based on inverse kinematics for mobile robots is proposed, i.e., an algorithm capable of dealing with the three basic problems of this kind of navigation, considering that each one of them may be solved by using adequate smooth velocity control inputs; which improves performance of the autonomous mobile robot by applying an effective control law.
