Abstract:
ABSTRACT: By the fact a motorcycle does not have a structure to protect its occupants in cases of traffic accidents,
this project will adapt a scale model two safety systems that are implemented in premium vehicles into
a low-cylinder motorcycle model. The first will be a blind spot detection system to assist the motorcyclist
in the safe lane change by notifying with visual / audible alerts if there are other vehicles in the
motorcyclist's blind spots in order to keep the driver focused on the way. The second system will be
activated in the event that the motorcyclist suffers a fall, since an emergency contact will be notified
about the accident showing their geographical coordinates to get the accident information. The
technology to detect blind spots was used ultrasonic sensors; in addition a triaxial accelerometer is used
to detect the position of the motorcyclist, a GPS (Global Positioning System) to know the geographical
location, for the text message send system an module SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) to establish the
mobile communication connection with SMS (Short Message Service). Additionally, a prototype of a
safe distance system is included in order to notify the vehicles that are driving behind the low-cylinder
motorcycle if the distance between vehicles is not adequate in the case of abrupt braking, using an
ultrasonic sensor to determine the safe distance and a visual alert to inform the vehicle behind the
motorcycle.
From this project an active safety system can be obtained and could be adapted on any motorcycle, due
to the size of the components and the structures of the motorcycles. The three systems work
independently, so it is not necessary to implement them simultaneously, facilitating their installation
and hardware. This active safety system seeks to offer greater protection to motorcyclists by assisting
them in driving where there is a greater traffic of vehicles and to have a way of communicating with
friends / family in the event that the motorcyclist suffers an accident and he is unable to establish
communication on his own way, in those case the emergency contacts will have knowledge of the
accident and they might be able to help it in a faster way.
