Abstract

RESUMEN: El presente trabajo describe la experiencia clínica obtenida de la aplicación de la terapéutica acupuntural en el Centro de Educación Continua Unidad Allende del Instituto Politécnico Nacional del 25 de agosto del año 2014 al día 8 de Septiembre de 2015. Se ofrecieron pláticas informativas acerca de lo que es la acupuntura, sus beneficios, sus formas y modalidades de tratamiento, además de enfatizar el hecho en ser personal calificado el que proporciona el tratamiento principalmente por la seguridad y la salud de los pacientes. De 152 pacientes atendidos, 73 (48%) presentaron Lumbalgia siendo la patología de mayor incidencia. Al comparar los resultados iniciales y finales del Cuestionario de Oswestry, se obtuvieron los siguientes resultados al evaluarlos con la Escala de Oswestry. Con límite funcional mínimo, no hubo pacientes; límite funcional de discapacidad, con mejoría en 41.3%; límite funcional intenso, bajó de 9 a 0 pacientes, con mejoría en 100%; limite funcional moderado, con mejoría de 14.2%; y Limite funcional máximo, no hubo pacientes. Resultado global: 73 pacientes iniciales con Lumbalgia bajó a 47, con mejoría para 26 pacientes (35.6%). Los resultados obtenidos muestran que la acupuntura no solo es de particular importancia en el diagnóstico y tratamiento de diversas enfermedades, sino que puede ser una pieza importante en el tratamiento integral del paciente, mostrando un estricto apego al análisis médico-científico y a la práctica clínica. Cabe mencionar que la actividad permitió la apertura y difusión de la terapéutica en dicho centro, ofertando una terapéutica natural eficaz y económica que se ha comprobado que es muy útil en el manejo del dolor.

ABSTRACT: The present dissertation describes the clinic experience from the application of acupuncture treatments during August 25, 2014 to September 8, 2015 in the “Allende” Unit of Continuous Education of the Mexican National Polytechnic Institute. Instruction on the benefits, methods and philosophy of acupuncture took place through informative sessions for patients seeking treatment. During these sessions, the qualification and expertise of the personnel providing the service was stressed in order to reassure patients about their safety and health. The most common affliction was low back pain; having an incidence of 48 percent (73 out of 152 treated patients). Comparisons of the Oswestry Low Back Pain Questionnaire applied at the initial and final stages of a 10-session treatment showed the following illness reductions: 41.3% in patients classified under “physical incapacity limit”. 100% in patients under “intense functional limit”, 14.2% in patients under “moderate functional limit”. None of these patients were classified under “maximum” and “minimum functional limits”. Overall, the incidence of low back pain could be reduced in as much as 35.6% with acupuncture (i.e. a decrease from 73 to 47 patients, suggesting that a acupuncture is a relevant treatment to reduced multiple low back pain illnesses and a mayor instrument for an integral treatment of a patient in accordance with the scientific method and the typical clinical practise. In addition, acupuncture seems to be gradually increasing its acceptance among the population, as it is less costly and highly effective as compared with other treatments. It is also noteworthy that the patients treated with acupuncture developed better empathy with the doctors as the treatment is developed in a more holistic approach considering physical and emotional conditions, which created stronger bonds between them and the doctor.
