ABSTRACT:
In the present work, the effect of aluminum on the evolution of the microstructure, texture and mechanical properties of 3 Mg-Al alloys with compositions of 4, 6 and 8% by weight of aluminum content was studied. These were homogenized after casting at 400 ° C for 24 hours, to then apply a thermomechanical treatment of rolling at 400 and 450 ° C for the 3 concentrations with 10% reduction percentages per step until reaching a total percentage reduction of 66.6%.
After the rolling, a global texture measurement was made for each alloy. The results indicate a basal texture in each of the samples, registering the strongest intensities in the concentrations Mg-6%Al and within these concentrations the laminated to 450 ° C is the one that stands out with an intensity of 25.20.
In the already deformed alloys, an annealing was applied for 12 hours at 400 ° C and cooled in water to retain the greater amount of aluminum dissolved in the magnesium matrix.
By means of tension tests at ambient and intermediate temperatures (150 and 200°C) the mechanical behavior was analyzed. At the 3 test temperatures, the best values of tensile strength were recorded in the alloy laminated at 400 ° C and with higher aluminum content (Mg-8%Al). The sample tested at room temperature showed the highest value with 386 MPa.
By means of EBSD, the local texture of the samples laminated at 400 ° C was obtained, this series is the one with the best mechanical behavior, and the sample with the least intensity is the one tested at room temperature and with 8% Al. |
