ABSTRACT: The port of Acapulco, the same as most of the tourist areas of Mexico, obtains of the development of tourist activities their biggest utility and in smaller grade of the fishing activities, this activity is reflected in the
shortage of published studies and the lack of necessary basic information on the communities ichthyologic, and mainly of the populations of the rocky reefs; reason why it is important to carry out investigations that generate qualitative and quantitative knowledge that allows to estimate the readiness of these resources for an appropriate use. The objective of this work was to describe the variation in the composition, abundance and diversity of the ichthyofauna in four rocky reefs of the bay of Acapulco, Guerrero. For this study eight campaigns of samplings three-monthly were programmed during the periods of October from 2001 to July of 2002, and January from 2004 to July of 2004, as well as a last period that were understood January of 2005.
The samplings were carried out using visual censuses by means of free diving, which were done over a transect of 50 m of longitude along the coast line, taking 2.5 m of each side of the line to cover a total of 250 m2. A total of 54,509 fish were observed belonging to 2 classes, 43 families, 85 genera and 114 species. The families better represented in number of species they were: Haemulidae and Labridae with 9 species. The family that contributed the biggest abundance was Pomacentridae with 39.24% of the total abundance. The zoogeographic analysis indicated a dominant of species with wide distribution in the Tropical Eastern Pacific (71.9%), with important contributions of transpacific species (11.4%). The results of abundance relative general indicated that six species (Chromis atrilobata, Stegastes acapulcoensis, Thalassoma lucasanum, Prionurus punctatus, Abudefduf troschelli and Caranx caballus) they accumulated 57.0% of the total abundance. The diversity presented as value general 3.14 bits/ind, with a temporary stocking of 2.26 bits/ind, (± 0.21) and seasonally the stocking was of 2.59 bits/ind., (± 0.24), being considered a moderate diversity to be a tropical area. According to the index of biological value (IBV), the most important species for the rocky reefs of the bay of Acapulco were C. atrilobata, S. acapulcoensis, T. lucasanum, A. troschelli, P. punctatus, Ophioblennius steindachneri and Microspathodon dorsalis, same that show a temporary homogeneous distribution and spatially. It was found that difference exists among the islands of the interior of the bay and those located outside of the bay, so much in the number of species, like in the values of abundance of the opposing species. One observes little exchange of species, although the four islands are at alone relatively short distances they share 47 species in common, this shows the importance of the refuge readiness that they offer the external islands to the bay that they are of more dimension. Also, it was observed bigger values of abundance in the towns of the exterior of the bay, probably favoured for the heterogeneity of the bottom (coral covering); while the low values of abundance in the towns of the interior of the bay seem to depend more than the recurrent fluctuations of the environmental factors (season of rains) that of interactions characteristic of the community.
