Abstract:
ABSTRACT: The entomopathogenic fungi besides causing mycosis in the insects can be like endophytes in the tissue of the plants promoting their growth and the development of defense mechanisms against diseases and insects. The objective of this work was to determine the endophytic activity of entomopathogenic fungi against the damages caused by the yellow aphid in sorghum. Entomopathogenic fungi were reactivated Beauveria sp., Isolated yellow aphid, Metarhizium sp. Trichoderma sp. Isolated from sugar cane. 3 ml of solution of 1 x 108 spores mL-1 of the fungi were sprayed to 12 seedlings per treatment. 20 days after the inoculation, cross-sectional slices were made and they were observed by confocal microscopy to verify the presence of fungi. Seedlings were also seeded in selective media. For the evaluation of the promotion of growth, 12 seedlings were sprinkled in the same way and 20 days after the spraying on the height, the diameter of the stem, the weight of the plants, the length and the weight of the root. In the same way, 16 seedlings were sprayed by treatment, 10 aphids were placed per seedling and the aphids were counted during 12 days. By means of microscopy confocal and seeding of cuts in selective medium, the presence of fungal spores inoculated in the tissue of the leaves is verified 20 days after the inoculation. In the discriminant analysis Beauveria sp., Metarhizium sp. and Trichoderma sp. The growth
of the seedlings with respect to the control was promoted. The seedlings sprinkled with fungi had significantly fewer aphids, compared with the control. Endophytes can be an alternative to promote plant growth and decrease the population of yellow aphid.
