Abstract:

ABSTRACT: Tourism and culture have been approached from different perspectives, but in recent years
there have been exercises that bring them closer, one of these cases is the one proposed by
tourism management of cultural heritage and sociocultural animation.
One of the scenarios that can promote the approach is the Plaza Garibaldi, a public space of
Mexico City and an emblematic attraction of the city, which at the same time is one of the
representative scenes of the Mariachi. The space has significant social antecedents since the
pre-hispanic era and in 2010 a great remodeling was carried out, which has been severely
criticized for not giving importance to the Mariachi as the main actors of the plaza would
have wanted. In 2011, UNESCO declared the Mariachi intangible heritage, this being one of
eight declarations that Mexico has in intangible heritage. The square is the space where
different actors coexist, some of vital importance for the usufruct of the heritage and for the
enjoyment of the visitor.
How would a proposed tourism management based on sociocultural animation in the usufruct
of the Mariachi, intangible heritage of humanity in the Plaza Garibaldi? The previous
question motivated the present investigation that starts from the analysis of the participative
observation and the interviews with the main actors of the square, which allowed to obtain
data on their perception of the use of the Mariachi and its main position towards the
experience of the visitor, Likewise, a survey was developed to the national and international
visitors of the square, determining their motivations. In this way it was confirmed and
contrasted with the same actors of the square, that the Mariachi is the main reason for visiting,
for which the proposal is integrated by three actions for the management of the use of the
Mariachi, which based on the methodology of sociocultural animation are feasible for its
implementation.
