ABSTRACT: In the last decades the impacts of anthropogenic activity have increased significantly
in the coastal zones, affecting with the human waste the Quality of the Marine Water
(QMW). The town of Puerto San Carlos, BCS, does not have public sewage service
or treatment plant for the wastewater, generating a problem with the dumping water
to the sea. The objective of the study was to analyze the QMW and nutrient transport
in the mouth of estuary San Carlos. During the periods from 11 to 14 October 2016
(Autumn) and 27 to 30 June 2017 (Summer), we sampled in the interior of the
estuary three times (at day) at a fixed, in order to analyze the QMW, and to determine
the water nutrients transport . QMW was assesed by quantifying fecal coliform
(Coliert method), detergents, oils, fats, pH, dissolved oxygen and nutrients, using the
standard methods. The transport of nutrients was carried sampling the surface
water every 2 h and during a period of 72 h in the two samplings sites. The amplitude,
speed and direction of the current were measured with an InterOcean-S4 current
meter. The fecal coliforms presented in the estuary showed an average of 1011
(NMP / 100ml) for the whole estuary. The pH was the only variable that presented
significant difference (p < 0.05) in two seasons. The mean nutrients (nitrite, nitrate,
ammonium and phosphate) exceeded the permissible limits of the Ecological Criteria
CE-CCA-001/89 in the three samling dates. The transport of nutrients showed an
export of Dissolved Inorganic Nitrogen and phosphate during the autumn and import
during summer. According to official standards and ecological criteria, fecal coliforms
and mean nutrients exceeded the permitted limits for seawater indicating poor water
quality. Physicochemical parameters comply with NOM-001 for all uses. |
